Gummisoft News Classifieds Module
Posted by gummi on Thursday, May 04, 2006 (13:37:35) (487 reads)

I've modified the NukeC_DF module fixing most of the bugs, and renaming it to classifieds. I made a lot of changes to the code and database and I actually plan on doing some more additions to the code sometime down the road.

Gummisoft News Moved
Posted by gummi on Friday, March 10, 2006 (01:27:05) (2 reads)

I moved to a new host, actually I also moved to a new format. I was running on a Microsoft dot net platform with C# and MSSQL 2000 through webhost4life. I reported 2 probs (both easy fixes) during my time there, but both times the resolution was not to be seen for over 30 hours, definetly not prompt service. Another complaint, I can go to my site and wait up to 45 seconds to see the home page, if I closed the browser and went back, it was ok, but if I waited 30 minutes or more, I'm waiting again. The server I was on had about 120 databases, and almost the same number of websites on one, 1 processor windows 2k server. Granted sharded hosting is not the best solution, but that is too much for one box no matter how you look at it.

I looked around at other MS dot net hosting, but any cheap host seems to have somebody saying bad things about them. So now I decided to go nix based with apache and php, besides you can't beat the deals on nix hosting (best bang for the buck). I also will be designing a realty website and php is the way I have to go.

I wish I could use some of the code I wrote in c# (especially my training journal, movie list and some of the reports) but I'll have to re-create them in php versions, the learning never stops!
