What's up with Dell's pricing??? I work for a company that is a dell partner and has a dell premier account. I checked our pricing for the new Dell 3008wfp with 5 year warranty. Our cost 1574.25 on a 2099.00 monitor. I thought great, contacted out dell rep to see about putting this on my person DPA. He said I would have to call the home sales department and ask if there are any internal deals. I did and even a dell rep offered me 1589 shipped if his manager approved it. I get a call back late in the evening saying they would only do 10 percent off!
If it wasn't for the pain meds (back issues) I'm on and a few beers I would haver really gone after dell about this. They whould only give me 10 percent off and charge me shipping, tax and 21.5 percent financing on top of it all.
Thanks Dell!

Another complaint about netflix! I shipped back a movie on a monday, they check it in on tuesday morning, wednsday night I get an email for sat delivery. Well I finally get it tuesday from CA! Of course I wrote a letter to netflix about it and recieved the normal apologetic letter in return. When I returned it, 2 days later I get an email saying it was received and the next movie they sent came from nevada, arghhhh!!!!
I did give them some suggestions like notifying members in the queue if a movie is not available in state so members can better organize the time the get that movie at a latter date. But the less movies you get a month is more money they save!

Netflix Shipping and Receiving

I've been with netflix exactly 2 months now and have been seeing movies taking longer to be checked in. In fact I dropped my last one off at the post office Thursday and they most likely had it Friday. I received an email saying they received it today. Today is a postal holiday, 1.16.06, is Martin Luther King Jr.'s Birthday.
Well it's evident someone went to work without there coffee this morning and forgot it's a holiday. Google-ing "Netflix Shipping and Receiving" I see this throttling is common practice, some say blockbuster is better some say it's even worse than netflix.
I think they should offer a series of truly unlimited plans that allow the next day shipping & receiving but we pay all or part of the shipping. That way you can get 2 movies a week on the cheapest plan!
UPDATE: Well somehow I got the next movie on tuesday, I guess it went out early morning tuesday (like 1am). Still, every disc I received took one day, while check-in takes two or three days.

Does everybody hate MS?

Why does everyone seem to hate or complain about Microsoft? Granted they have more money than anyone can ever use, and some of their software is a bit pricey (what isn't these days?!?!). Just about every virus was written to affect MS products, and windows update is an absolute must.
But most of the people and organizations that are complaining so much are the one's that made microsoft so big! I've known so many people that say they hate microsoft, but yet it's what they use at the office and is their choice for the home. Go figure!
I have never seen a program that didn't have bugs, on any OS. Because MS has the most widely used OS's, that's what you hear about. But believe me, linux and other's have the same bugs. MS offers resources to notify you when bugs are found and fixed, every IT person and home user should subscribe to these, unfortunately they don't, or they procrastinate the installation of patches. That's why you see so many systems affected by viruses. You can't blame anyone but yourself if you don't keep up to date on patches, no matter what OS you run!
I would like to see MS release a special version of server running the windows and ofice update applications for ISP's and bussinesses that can only be updated from certain certified servers. This will help cut down on internet bandwith for everyone. I would also like to see MS release a console only version of windows NT, no graphical interface at all, except from remote machines. Then remove the gui from some other servers and services.

MP3s, RIAA, Legal action!?!?

What's up with the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America)? Remember when you used to tape a record or cd? Now a day, you record to mp3's. If you shared you tape no prob, but share mp3's and you can get into hot water. MP3 has become a very popular format, you can easily fit half a dozen cd's on one cd. You constantly see new and better mp3 players everyday, more features, more storage space, easier to share. Actually in a way mp3 players promote using and sharing mp3's. So why doesn't the RIAA go after the makers of the mp3 players? Look at the companies making mp3 players (a lot of big name companies). The funny thing is before the mp3 players hit the market, no one was complaining about mp3's!
Bottom line is money. They see sharing mp3's as lost revenue, even though they mis-spent money on marketing, high priced studio time, etc. If the cd is worth buying, most people will buy it. The average price of a cd is $16.00, a brand new dvd cost the same. The actual cost to make the cds from the master cd, is well under $1.00 a piece, but the recording industry likes to figure in marketing cost, studio time, etc. All of which seems to keep increasing in cost. The worst part of the $16.00 price tag is usually only 1-3 of the songs on the cd are the ones we listen to, the rest we'll skip.
Lower the price of cds to $6-$8, the RIAA should try getting every mp3 player recalled, and banned, watch and budget studio time, marketing, etc. Place salary caps on every job in the entire entertainment industry.
This is one of those battles that will never be one.
